PROJECT DESCRIPTION
ASCT has recently been awarded the Rockhampton-Yeppoon Road Project by CMC and TMR. This significant project forms part of the Australian and Queensland government’s 10-year Roads of Strategic Importance corridor investment program.
The initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and connectivity of key freight routes, particularly those linking agricultural regions, ports, airports and other transport hubs. Additionally, it aims to improve accessibility for vital sectors such as tourism and mining.
We at ASCT are proud to have been chosen for this project following a vigorous tender process, with the majority of the award being based on a non-price criterion. Our success in securing this project underscores our robust quality system and dedicated team in Rockhampton’s fantastic reputation.
Key features of the project include widening the road to four lanes between Iron Pot and Hedlow Creek, streamlining private accesses onto Rockhampton-Yeppoon Road, and realigning the Old Byfield Road connection onto Artillery Road.
Additionally, provisions will be made for left-in and left-out access at Artillery Road and Dairy Inn Road, along with the construction of U-turn facilities and extensive storage and deceleration zones.
Furthermore, the project encompasses upgrades to intersections such as Cabbage Tree Creek Road and Iron Pot Road, incorporating dedicated protected turn lanes for enhanced safety. Safe roadway design elements, including recoverable batters, guardrails, and ample clear zone clearing, will also be integrated.
A key aspect of the project is the provision of a 2.5-meter-wide shoulder to accommodate on-road bicycle riding, promoting sustainable and active transportation.
With a project value of $100 million, this endeavour represents a significant investment in improving regional infrastructure and fostering economic growth in the area.
